Welcome a New Year, and a promise of new beginnings and resolutions to get fit and healthy in the New Year. What better way to stick to your New Year’s resolutions than challenging yourself to one or all the races on Tybee in February.
2020 marks the 12th anniversary of The Critz Tybee Run Fest. Local residents and travelers alike lace up their running shoes and hit the sand for the annual event. They have added a new App that can be downloaded so participants can get weather updates, view the course, see results and sweet selfies, too with the all-new, official Critz Tybee Run App for all Android or Apple mobile devices. With full race schedules, parking information, weather updates, official race selfie filters, personal race timing results, social media access, and much, much more, this app is not to be missed!
The “Race” is made up of two days of events. Participants have the chance to run in a “fun run” or run in various distance events, and after Saturday’s full day of run events, some runners will run enough miles to chalk up a whole Marathon! The Critz Tybee Run Fest is one of Tybee’s most notable running events. Tybee is not a very large island, but the Tybee Run Fest makes it possible for runners to run a 26.2 mile marathon! Beginning Friday, January 31, 2020, The Byrd’s Famous Cookies 1/7 mile Kiddie Run at 6:15 pm. Then at 6:30, pm, the fun 5K kicks off. Bright and early on Saturday, the Collin’s Quarter 10K begins at 7:00 am, immediately followed by the kick off of the Chu's Half Marathon at 8:30 am, followed by the Lighthouse Pizza 2.8 Mile Beach Run at noon, and finally the Bernie's 1 Mile at 1:00 pm. (Are you exhausted yet!?)
Runners can choose to run all 5 events or run any of the events. Awards will be given for each race in all age groups, as well as Individuals that complete all 5 events will be awarded a Critz Auto Group finisher’s medal! Awards will be given for each event for top finishers overall, and for each age group.
The most amazing part of this unique event is the location! Tybee Island is the star of the show! Participants will get to tour our beautiful community as they run through our town and on our pristine beach. The start/finish line for the 5K and 10K will showcase the Tybee Pier and Pavilion, many shops and restaurants, the Tybee Lighthouse and neighborhoods like Fort Screven, and several streets on the South end of Tybee.
Congratulations to all the runners competing in the full marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5K, 2.8 or 1-mile races. While visiting we hope you have a chance to enjoy some of the natural beauty of our area and the local attractions in both Savannah and on Tybee Island. This event is a favorite among locals. The weekend event also supports numerous non-profit organizations in and around Tybee and Savannah. You can register online for the event or mail in your registration. Not ready to run this year? They are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help with setup and the races. Come run with us! Come stay with us!
