New Year’s Resolutions are alive and doing well on Tybee Island! Every year, Local residents and travelers alike, lace up their running shoes and hit the pavement and the sand for the annual Critz Tybee Run Fest! The race is a 2 day (really 24 hours) ‘festival’ of runs. Participants have the choice to run in a “fun run” or choose various events over two days. All events total 26.2 miles, so, once Saturday’s full day of running events concludes, some runners will have enough miles logged to complete a whole Marathon!
The Critz Tybee Run Fest, is one of Tybee’s most notable running events. The two day event begins on February 3rd with the North Beach Bar and Grill 5K at 6:00 pm. Then, bright and early on Saturday, the Wet Willie's 10K begins, immediately followed by the kick off of the Chu's Half Marathon, followed by the Lighthouse Pizza 2.8 Mile Beach Run, and finally the Basil's 1 Mile. (Are you exhausted yet!?)
The Critz Tybee Run Fest has something for everyone! You can choose just the 2.8 beach run, or maybe the (cough) 1 mile. Or challenge yourself - and your feet - to the 1/2 marathon, plus the other 4! It's a beavy of running, and it's all for local non-profits. Awards will be given for each age group after each race, as well as overall winners for each race, Individuals that complete all 5 events will be awarded a Critz Auto Group finisher’s medal! Awards will be given for each event for top finishers overall, and for each age group.
The most amazing part about this unique event is the location! Tybee Island is the star of the show! Participants will get to tour our beautiful community as they run through our town, and on our pristine beach. The Start and Finish lines for the 5 and 10K will showcase the Tybee Lighthouse and the Tybee Pier and Pavilion. Runners will pass by many shops and restaurants, the Tybee Lighthouse and neighborhoods like Fort Screven, and several streets on the South end of Tybee.
Congratulations to all of the runners competing in the full marathon, half marathon, 5K, 10K, 2.8 or 1 mile races. While visiting we hope you have a chance to enjoy some of the natural beauty of our area and the local attractions in both Savannah and on Tybee Island. This event is a favorite among locals. The weekend event also support numerous non-profit organizations in and around Tybee and Savannah. You can register online for the event or mail in your registration. Not ready to run this year? They are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help with setup and the races. Come run with us! Come stay with us!
